Yucca Filamentosa or ‘Needle Palm’  is a small, evergreen shrub with basal rosettes of stiff, sword like glaucous, dark green leaves, making a superb architectural / feature plant for the garden. Creamy-white bell shaped flowers are borne on stiff conical panicles, the stems approximately 1-2m tall through mid summer. The use of a gravel mulch accentuates it’s architectural foliage, a useful addition to the mediterranean themed garden, providing year round interest and colour.

Looking After Your Yucca Filamentosa

Generally pest and disease free tropical looking shrub and ideally suited to the drier sunnier areas of the garden. Yucca Filamentosa will thrive in most soils, but it must be well drained, with the addition of a good quality general purpose fertiliser early Spring to encourage fresh young growth. Remove any spent flowers by cutting back to the base of the stem, along with any damaged leaves. Although quite hardy, some protection from the coldest drying winds would be beneficial.
