Shrubs

Shrubs are woody-stemmed plants, usually freely branching from the base. Most shrubs reach no more than five or six metres in height, but the majority of species and cultivars attain considerably smaller stature. They offer a wide variety of shapes and sizes, from prostrate or clump-forming sub-shrubs only fifteen centimetres high—-right up to the erect, tree-like shrubs.

Shrubs can be either evergreen or deciduous, and both groups are highly prized as essential parts of most garden designs. They have an immense range of ornamental features, including attractive foliage, fragrant flowers, colourful fruits or decorative stems. There are a very wide variety of shrubs, ensuring that there is always a wide range available for almost every soil and aspect of the garden.
