Salix Bockii is a beautiful and hardy deciduous shrub that is native to China. This stunning plant is highly valued for its unique characteristics, including its attractive foliage, and adaptability to a range of growing conditions.

It is characterised by its narrow, lance-shaped leaves that are a silvery green colour with a slightly hairy texture. In the Autumn, it produces clusters of showy  catkins that add an extra touch of beauty to its overall appearance. The plant is also highly adaptable, able to grow in a wide range of soil types and moisture levels, from wetlands to dry soils.

In addition to its ornamental value, it has a range of practical uses as well. It is often used in erosion control, due to its ability to stabilise soil and prevent erosion on hillsides and riverbanks. The plant’s strong, flexible branches are also ideal for weaving baskets and other traditional crafts.

In summary, this is a versatile and attractive shrub that adds beauty and practical value to any landscape. Its adaptability, hardiness, and ease of care make it an excellent choice for gardeners and landscapers alike.

How to care for your Salix Bockii

  • Location: Prefers to grow in moist to wet soil and full to partial sunlight. Plant it in an area that receives at least 6 hours of sunlight per day and has well-draining soil.
  • Watering: Requires consistently moist soil, so it’s important to water it regularly during dry periods. However, be careful not to overwater, as too much water can lead to root rot.
  • Fertilisation: Does not require fertiliser, but if you want to encourage more growth or blooms, you can apply a slow-release, balanced fertiliser in the Spring.
  • Pruning: It can be pruned in the early Spring to promote a more compact growth habit and to remove any dead or damaged branches. However, be cautious not to prune more than a third of the plant’s growth at once.
