Phormium Tricolor, also known as ‘Mountain Flax’, holder of the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit, is a clump forming evergreen garden shrub.  It has colourful, sword like, erect, green leaves with creamy yellow stripes and red margins. During long hot Summers panicles of yellow/green tubular flowers are produced on tall spikes, standing proud above the leaves, providing an eye catching statement plant within the garden border or as a patio/container plant.

Looking after Your Phormium Hookeri Tricolor

Generally disease free, an easy to grow, low maintenance evergreen garden shrub, preferring a sunny area, sheltered away from any cold, drying Winter winds, ideal for the sunny border, and which will add both height and colour. A moist, well drained, fertile soil will ensure you have a healthy and happy shrub. Although generally maintenance free, remove any dead or damaged leaves /flower spikes late Spring, at the same time providing a good mulch of well rotted garden compost and a general purpose fertiliser to help stimulate plenty of fresh new growth.
