Escallonia Apple Blossom, holder of the coveted RHS Award of Garden Merit, is a multi stemmed, evergreen, flowering shrub, often used to form a hedge. It is a versatile plant, both sun loving and drought tolerant. The small dark green, shiny leaves providing a strong backdrop for the masses of fragrant, tubular pink, tinged with white flowers that are produced in the Summer. It is an excellent pollinator attracting a huge variety of butterflies, bees and other beneficial insects to the garden.
Looking After Your Escallonia Apple Blossom
Generally pest and disease free this is an easy to grow Summer flowering ornamental shrub. A low maintenance plant benefitting from a sunny area in all types of garden. It will tolerate most soils as long as they are well drained. Once planted apply a generous mulch of well rotted garden compost or multi purpose fertiliser around it’s base. In mid to late Spring, remove any dead or damaged branches and prune to maintain shape and height. Although a hardy shrub some protection may be needed from the coldest, drying Winter winds.
