Choisya Ternata, also known as ‘Mexican Orange Blossom’, a recipient of the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit, is a compact, aromatic evergreen shrub of rounded habit, with glossy, dark green, palmately divided leaves. The very fragrant, white, star-shaped flower clusters are produced both early Spring and late Summer/Autumn, making it a superb pollinator attracting many butterflies and other beneficial insects to the garden, also an ideal candidate for the sensory garden, this choisya will brighten any border with its all year round fragrance and colour.
Looking After Your Choisya Ternata
Generally pest and disease free and an easy to grow fragrant, evergreen, flowering garden shrub in many if not all locations. A low maintenance plant which can benefit from a sunny or partially shaded and sheltered area in all types of garden from Cottage planting schemes, court-yard gardens and coastal areas. Plant in a fertile, moist, but well drained soil, away from any cold / drying Winter winds. Feed with a good quality multi-purpose fertiliser early Spring to encourage strong fresh new growth for the coming season. Prune immediately after flowering removing between 20-30 cms of the flowering stem to encourage a second flush of flowers late Summer early Autumn, at the same time removing any damaged or unwanted branches.
