Ceanothus Concha, also known as ‘Californian Lilac’ and holder of the RHS Award of Garden Merit is an evergreen shrub of dense habit with arching branches bearing dark green, glossy leaves providing a bold background for its clusters of deep blue flowers which are produced during late spring.

An easy to grow shrub which prefers a sunny location and planted away from any cold, drying winds.  A suitable candidate for growing against a wall to provide a background splash of intense blue colour.  A good fertile soil which is well drained, will ensure you have a healthy and happy shrub.

How to care for your Ceanothus Concha

  • Plant in well-drained soil in a location that receives full sun or partial shade.
  • Water the plant regularly during its first growing season to establish a deep and extensive root system. Once established, the plant is quite drought tolerant, but benefits from occasional watering during prolonged dry periods.
  • Prune as needed to maintain shape, but avoid heavy pruning that removes more than one-third of the plant’s foliage.
  • Fertilise in Spring with a balanced, slow-release fertiliser.
