Calamagrostis brachytricha, also known as ‘Korean Feather Reed Grass’, holder of the much coveted RHS Award of Garden Merit, is a clump-forming, deciduous perennial, with gracefully arching green, linear foliage. Throughout the Summer, fluffy silver-grey, tinted purple flower heads are formed on tall, erect, stiffs stems which sway gently on the breeze, stunning when planted on mass, the flower plumes and seed heads are excellent for cutting and used as part of a flower arrangement.

Looking After Your Calamagrostis Acutiflora Overdam

Generally pest and disease free, an easy to grow perennial grass in many if not all locations. This low maintenance, drought resistant grass, will benefit from a sunny or partially shaded area of the garden, from the informal cottage garden planting schemes to the more formal town/city garden, suitable also for coastal planting. Calamagrostis will thrive in most soil conditions, preferring a free draining site away from wet or water-logged areas. Cut hard back to ground level late Winter or early Spring, when a good quality general purpose fertiliser will help promote fresh new growth.
