Calamagrostis Brachytricha Mona is a clump-forming, deciduous perennial, with gracefully arching green, linear foliage. Throughout the Summer, fluffy silver-grey, tinted purple flower heads are formed on tall, erect, stiffs stems which sway gently on the breeze, stunning when planted on mass, the flower plumes and seed heads are excellent for cutting and used as part of a flower arrangement. You will see on the second photograph the difference between Calamagrostis Brachytricha and Calamagrostis Brachytricha Mona, the Mona having the wider foliage.
Looking After Your Calamagrostis
Generally pest and disease free, an easy to grow perennial grass in many if not all locations. This low maintenance, drought resistant grass, will benefit from a sunny or partially shaded area of the garden, from the informal cottage garden planting schemes to the more formal town/city garden, suitable also for coastal planting. Calamagrostis will thrive in most soil conditions, preferring a free draining site away from wet or water-logged areas. Cut hard back to ground level late Winter or early Spring, when a good quality general purpose fertiliser will help promote fresh new growth.
