Buxus Sempervirens ‘Elegantissima’, also known as ‘Elegantissima Boxwood’, is a popular cultivar of the American Boxwood that is known for its striking variegated foliage. This evergreen shrub is known for its small glossy leaves that are edged with creamy white, giving it a two-tone appearance.

The Elegantissima Boxwood is a slow-growing plant and is perfect for use in hedges, topiary, and as a border plant. It can also be used as a foundation planting or as an accent in garden beds. The unique variegated leaves of this cultivar make it stand out in any landscape, providing year-round interest.

In the 16th and 17th centuries, Boxwood was a popular choice for formal gardens and parterres in Europe. It was also used to create intricate topiary designs, such as knot gardens and labyrinths.

In the 18th and 19th centuries, boxwood was introduced to North America and quickly became a popular choice for landscaping. It was used to create hedges, borders, and topiary, and it was also used in the gardens of stately homes and public spaces.

How to care for your Buxus Sempervirens Elegantissima

  1. Plant in well-drained soil in a location that receives ample sunlight or partial shade.
  2. Water regularly, keeping the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.
  3. Fertilise with a slow-release fertiliser during the growing season.
  4. Prune regularly to maintain shape and control size. It’s best to prune Boxwood after the last frost in Spring, before new growth begins.
  5. Mulch around the base of the plant to help retain moisture and keep weeds down.
