Looking After Your Buddleja Davidii Royal Red
Generally pest and disease free, although may be affected by aphids ( easily treated ). An easy to grow Summer flowering shrub in many if not all locations. A low maintenance shrub which can benefit from a sunny or partially shaded area in all types of garden, from the informal cottage type to coastal, or town/city gardens. The sunnier the aspect the better the flower colour. Buddleja will tolerate most soil types, and can be drought tolerant, but will benefit from a fertile, moist, but well drained one. For best results plant during early Spring, mulch with a well rotted garden compost around the base. For more established plants prune hard back during March, removing all of the previous years growth and apply a multi-purpose fertiliser to help encourage good strong new growth. Removing any spent flower heads throughout the Summer will prolong it’s flowering period, often up to the first frosts.
