Aucuba Japonica Picturata, also known as ‘Spotted or Japanese Laurel’ is a hardy, ornamental, evergreen, bushy shrub, with large, glossy green leaves bearing broad splashes of yellow. During April-May small purple-red flowers appear followed by bright red berries. An ideal addition to any garden providing year round interest, will brighten the dullest of corners, equally happy within the mixed shrub border or grown to form a dense impenetrable hedge/screen.
Looking After Your Aucuba Japonica Picturata
Generally pest and disease free, a low maintenance evergreen garden ornamental shrub requiring very little care. This easy to grow plant is not fussy and will thrive in most types of soil, although not if water-logged, and adapts easily to both deep shade or full sun, the sunnier the position the better the flower production when both male and female plants are planted in close proximity. Early Spring remove any damaged or unwanted branches to help maintain both size and shape, also apply a good quality general purpose fertiliser to encourage good strong, healthy growth.
