Aucuba Japonica Variegata, also known as the ‘Variegated or Spotted Japanese Laurel’, is a compact, upright evergreen shrub with large glossy leaves which are heavily spotted with cream-white markings. During early Spring small dark purple flowers appear and are then followed by bright red berries in the Autumn. Providing year round interest, this superb evergreen is adaptable to both shade or sun, ideal for that hard to fill shady area, a mixed shrub border or providing a dense hedge or screen.
Looking after your Aucuba Japonica Variegata
Generally pest and disease free, a low maintenance evergreen, ornamental garden shrub requiring very little care. This easy to grow shrub is not fussy, growing quite happily in most soil types providing it’s not water-logged. The sunnier the position the better the berry colouring. During early Spring remove any damaged or unwanted foliage to maintain size and shape and apply a good quality general purpose fertiliser to promote healthy, strong growth.
If using to form a hedge or screen plant approximately 60-90 cm apart.
