Looking After Your Astilbe Simplicifolia Sprite
Generally pest and disease free, this Astilbe is easy to grow and requires very little maintenance, adaptable to both sun and shade and thrives in organically rich, moist, well drained soils. Late Autumn cut back any untidy foliage, leaving a few flower heads to dry as these will then provide additional interest later in the season. Early Spring is an ideal time to divide plants, usually done every 3-4 years to maintain healthy bloom production, at the same time mulch with some well rotted garden compost to help retain moisture during the drier months, and feed using a good quality general purpose fertiliser.
