Acer Osakazuki also known as the ‘Japanese Maple’ and a recipient of the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit is a superb large garden shrub or small deciduous tree. It is suitable for border planting schemes or as a specimen within the lawned area. It is also suitable as patio/container plant for several years. Known as one of the best colouring of the Maples, its large, seven lobed serrated leaves emerge a lush dark green in early Spring and then turn various shades of bright scarlet towards the Autumn. The dark green of the leaves in Spring create a wonderful backdrop to its small red flowers which are followed by winged fruits.
The Acer is native to Japan and was first described in 1874. It has been grown in Japan for centuries and is a popular ornamental plant in gardens and parks. It was introduced to Europe in the early 20th century and has since become a popular ornamental plant worldwide.
