Pittosporum Golf Ball, commonly known as ‘Kohuhu’  is a popular cultivar of the Pittosporum Tenuifolium species, known for its compact, rounded growth habit and glossy, green leaves. It is a popular choice for gardeners and landscapers, who appreciate its versatility and ease of care.  In late Spring it bears small purple/brown flowers with a beautiful sweet honey scent acting as a magnet to the local wild-life, in particular the honey bee.  An ideal focal or architectural plant with low maintenance requirements, which is fast becoming an alternative to the Buxus Ball.

The Pittosporum Golf Ball cultivar was first discovered in the UK in the mid-20th century, and has since become a staple in gardens and landscaping projects around the world. Its unique growth habit, with a dense, rounded canopy and small, glossy leaves, make it an ideal choice for a wide range of uses, from topiary to rock gardens, and as a specimen or accent plant.

When caring for this Pittosporum, it is important to provide it with well-drained soil and full sun to partial shade. The plant is tolerant of a wide range of soils and will grow well in most soil types, although it prefers soil that is moist but not waterlogged. Regular watering is recommended, especially during periods of drought, to help the plant maintain its attractive appearance.

To maintain the compact, rounded growth habit, regular pruning may be necessary. This should be carried out in late Winter or early Spring, before new growth appears. Pruning should be carried out with care, to avoid damaging the plant’s delicate foliage and branches.

Overall, Pittosporum Golf Ball is an attractive and versatile plant that can bring a touch of elegance to any garden. With proper care and attention, it can be enjoyed for many years to come.
