Hemerocallis, more commonly known as Day Lilies, are clump-forming perennials that are highly valued for their reliability, long flowering season, and ease of care. They produce graceful, arching green foliage and sturdy flower stems bearing multiple blooms, each opening for a day but quickly replaced by others over several weeks.
These plants are offered as a mixed, unlabelled selection. They were supplied to us without individual cultivar labels, so the exact flower colours are currently unknown. As a result, plants will be dispatched at random and may flower in a range of colours typical of Hemerocallis, including yellows, oranges, reds, pinks, and possible bi-colours. This makes them an excellent choice for gardeners looking to create a natural, informal planting or enjoy a varied and colourful display.
How to care for your Hemerocallis Bonanza
- Plant in a well-drained soil, in a location that receives full sun or light shade.
- Water regularly, especially during prolonged dry spells, to keep the soil consistently moist.
- Fertilise monthly during the growing season with a balanced fertiliser, following the manufacturer’s instructions.
- Deadhead spent blooms regularly to encourage continuous flowering.
- Cut back the foliage in late Autumn after the first frost, but leave the dormant foliage over Winter to protect the crown of the plant.
- Divide the clumps every 3 to 4 years in Spring, to promote healthy growth and flowering.
Following these tips should help you grow healthy Hemerocallis for years to come.
