Looking After Your Escallonia Crimson Spire
Generally pest and disease free an easy to grow Summer flowering ornamental shrub in many if not all locations. Allow maintenance plant which will benefit from a sunny area in all types of garden from the informal cottage planting schemes to the more formal town/city, courtyard or coastal garden. Escallonia will tolerate most soil conditions, but must be kept well drained, once planted apply a generous mulch of well rotted garden compost or general purpose fertiliser around the base. Dead head regularly to prolong flowering. During mid-late Spring remove any damaged or unwanted branches to maintain shape and height and although a hardy shrub some protection from the coldest, drying Winter winds may be needed.
