Escallonia Crimson Spire, a recipient of the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit, is a multi-stemmed, evergreen, flowering shrub which is very adaptable to most growing conditions.  It makes an ideal screen or hedge but will be equally happy providing year round interest within the mixed shrub border.   It is a versatile plant, both sun loving and drought tolerant.  The shiny, dark green leaves provide a strong backdrop for the deep red, bell shaped flowers produced over the Summer months. It is an excellent pollinator attracting butterflies, bees and other beneficial insects to the garden.

Looking After Your Escallonia Crimson Spire

Generally pest and disease free this is an easy to grow Summer flowering ornamental shrub.  A low maintenance plant benefitting from a sunny area in all types of garden.  It will tolerate most soils as long as they are well drained.   Once planted apply a generous mulch of well rotted garden compost or multi purpose fertiliser around it’s base.   In mid to late Spring, remove any dead or damaged branches and prune to maintain shape and height.  Although a hardy shrub some protection may be needed from the coldest, drying Winter winds.
