Dicentra Luxuriant, also known as ‘Bleeding Heart’, is a popular perennial plant known for its delicate, arching sprays of red heart-shaped flowers. It is native to the woodlands and mountain valleys of Japan and China and has been cultivated for centuries in gardens around the world.

The Dicentra Luxuriant is a hardy plant that grows to a height and spread of 50cm. It is known for its delicate foliage and elegant flowers that bloom in Spring and early Summer. The foliage is a lush green and is finely cut, creating a delicate and lacy appearance. The flowers are red and are shaped like little hearts.

How to care for your Dicentra Luxuriant

To care for this Dicentra, it is important to plant it in a partially shaded area with well-drained soil. It prefers moist but not waterlogged soil, so be sure to water it consistently but be careful not to over-water as this can lead to root rot. Fertilise in Spring and Summer with a balanced fertiliser to promote healthy growth and better blooming.

After blooming, it’s important to cut back the plant to promote a second flush of flowers. This can be done by cutting the plant back to the base of the foliage. It is generally disease-free and pest-resistant, but keep an eye out for slugs and snails, which can damage the foliage.

To protect the plant from cold winter temperatures, it’s a good idea to mulch around the base of the plant in the Autumn. This will help keep the roots insulated and prevent frost damage.

With proper care, Dicentra Luxuriant will add a touch of elegance and romance to any garden setting with its delicate foliage and arching sprays of heart-shaped flowers
