Corylopsis Pauciflora, also known as the ‘Buttercup Witch Hazel’ and holder of the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit is a beautiful and elegant flowering shrub that is native to Japan and China. With its delicate, pendulous clusters of yellow flowers that bloom in early Spring, this shrub adds a touch of colour and beauty to any garden.

One of the key features of this Corylopsis is its compact growth habit, reaching up to 1.5 metres tall and 2.5 metres wide. This makes it an excellent choice for small gardens or as a specimen plant in a larger landscape. The foliage is attractive, with bright green leaves that are tinged red when young.

Propagation of Corylopsis pauciflora can be done by taking softwood cuttings in the summer or by seed.

How to care for your Corylopsis Pauciflora

-Placement: Prefers partial shade, it will tolerate full sun but prefers a protected location.

-Soil: Prefers well-drained, humus-rich soil, it can also be grown in a wide range of soil pH, from acidic to neutral.

-Watering: Once established, it is drought tolerant, so it does not require frequent watering. Water regularly during its first growing season to establish a strong root system.

-Fertilising: Fertilise in the Spring with a balanced fertiliser.

-Pruning: Prune back the dead foliage and flowers in late Winter or early Spring. This encourages new growth and helps the plant maintain its shape.

With the right care and conditions, the Corylopsis Pauciflora will grow to be a beautiful and striking flowering shrub in your garden.
