Cornus Midwinter Fire, commonly known as ‘Dogwood’ is grown mostly for its stunning Winter colour and is a spreading deciduous shrub. It produces a dense thicket of slender orange-yellow young stems which turn a brilliant orange-red in Autumn. It produces small creamy-white flowers from May to June which contrast beautifully against the oval, mid-green leaves. For a more dramatic effect plant in groups and mix with other coloured stemmed varieties. Recommended for informal planting schemes, flowers borders and along side water features.
Looking After Your Cornus Midwinter Fire
Cornus are generally pest and disease free, although may be affected by aphids during the Summer months. A low maintenance garden shrub and suitable to grow in many if not all locations, from cottage to town gardens, and coastal planting schemes. Cornus will tolerate a wide range of soil conditions, but do prefer a fertile, moist and well drained situation in full sun or partial shade, producing the brightest of coloured stems when grown in full sun.
