Berberis Rose Glow, commonly known as ‘Barberry’ and a holder of the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit is a small, spiny deciduous shrub of bushy, compact habit. Its purple ovate leaves are marbled pink and white which later darken to a purple-red colour towards Autumn. The small yellow flowers are ideal pollinators and are followed by an abundant crop of red berries towards the Autumn. A good shrub for hedging, screens, shrub borders or informal plantings even in coastal areas.
Looking After Your Berberis Rose Glow
A tough, resilient and easy to grow shrub, the Berberis Rose Glow is a low maintenance and generally pest free shrub although it may be affected by a powdery mildew. Very little pruning is required, although a gentle clip to retain its shape and to remove any damaged or unwanted branches may be done in the autumn or after flowering. In early Spring feed with a good general purpose fertiliser to encourage healthy, strong growth for the coming season.
