The Alchemilla Mollis also known as the ‘Lady’s Mantle’ a recipient of the much coveted RHS Award of Garden Merit is a clump forming and spreading perennial adding texture and flower to the garden with it’s scalloped bright green / yellow foliage, which catch and hold water drops. Taking it’s name from the Arabic, meaning little magical one as the water collected from the leaves after a morning dew was said to have healing powers. From June throughout the Summer plumes of green/yellow flowers are formed, a wonderful addition to any flower arrangement. Ideal for use as ground cover when planted on mass or for edging a border.
How to care for your Alchemilla Mollis
- Sunlight: Prefers partial shade to full sun. If you live in a hot climate, provide some shade during the hottest parts of the day.
- Soil: This plant prefers moist, well-drained soil that is rich in organic matter. Make sure to keep the soil moist, but avoid overwatering.
- Fertiliser: Does not require much fertilizer, but you can give it a light application of a balanced fertilizer in early spring.
- Pruning: Deadhead the spent flowers to encourage new blooms. Prune back the foliage in late Summer or early Autumn to promote healthy growth the following year.
- Division: Can be divided every few years to maintain its vigour. Do this in early Spring or Autumn, and make sure each division has some roots attached.
By following these tips, you can enjoy the beauty of Alchemilla Mollis in your garden for years to come.
