Cortaderia Selloana, also known as ‘White Pampas Grass’, is an evergreen mound forming grass originating from South America.  It has long slender leaves with very sharp edges, so great care should be taken when handling.  The leaves do vary slightly in colour, usually a bluish-green, but often seen to be a silvery-grey.  Its white flower plumes begin to form during early Summer and flower on long slender stems from September through to February. The Cortaderia Selloana makes a stunning evergreen flowering grass,  giving year round interest to the garden and often seen growing as a specimen plant within the lawn, also excellent for drying and often used by the florist for flower arrangements.

Looking After Your Cortaderia Selloana

This remarkably tough evergreen, ornamental grass must be one of the simplest of plants to grow, a generally pest and disease free and low maintenance grass which will benefit from a sunny fertile, open spot which allows the air to circulate freely though and around it, and suitable for all types of garden from the cottage planting scheme to town or court-yard gardens. Cortaderia Selloana is a drought tolerant grass and once established requires very little care, cut back flowering stems during February taking care and best done using a stout pair of gardening gloves to prevent cuts from the very sharp edges of the leaves.
