Cornus Kousa Chinensis, commonly known as ‘Chinese Dogwood’, is a small, hardy, deciduous garden tree, or large garden shrub. Its oval shaped leaves have pointed tips emerging dark green in the Spring then turning a vivid orange-purple towards the Autumn when small edible pink fruits are formed and are greatly favoured by some of the garden wild-life. Early Summer sees the appearance of tiny green, long lasting flowers surrounded by larger creamy-white flower bracts which turn a darkish pink with age. This superb plant creates a superb focal point for the garden, whether within the border or as a statement plant.
Looking After Your Cornus Kousa Chinensis
The Cornus Kousa Chinensis is generally pest and disease free, although it may be affected by aphids during the Summer months. It is an easy to grow small tree or large shrub in many if not all locations which will tolerate a wide range of soil conditions, but do prefer a humus rich, neutral-acid, moist well drained soil, within full sun or a partially shaded area of the garden.
