Looking After Your Weigela Florida Variegata
Generally pest and disease free, Weigela Florida Variegata, although may be affected by leaf or bud eel worm, is an easy to grow early flowering deciduous shrub in many if not all locations. A low maintenance ornamental garden shrub which can benefit from a sunny or partially shaded area in all types of garden from the informal cottage planting scheme to the more formal city or courtyard garden. Weigela Florida Variegata will tolerate most soils provided they are well drained, and will benefit from using a good quality general purpose fertiliser early Spring to encourage fresh new growth in the coming season. Any pruning required to maintain shape or overcrowding is best achieved after flowering, cut back to new shoots below the old/spent flowers to encourage new growth that will flower the following year, on more mature plants remove one or two old stems back to ground level.
