A low maintenance ornamental shrub which can benefit from a sunny or partially shaded area in all types of garden, from the more informal cottage planting scheme to formal city/ courtyard or coastal gardens, the sunnier the position the better the flower colour. Weigela Bristol Ruby will benefit from planting in a humus rich, fertile, well drained soil, once planted apply a good mulch of well rotted garden compost around its base, this will help retain some moisture during the dryer summer months. Each year remove one or two of the older stems on mature plants immediately after flowering, cutting the stems back to ground level, the remaining stems prune back to new shoots below the old flowers, this will ensure strong vigorous growth during the coming season.
