Tibouchina Urvilleana, also known as ‘Glory Bush’ and recipient of the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit is an evergreen shrub which can grow up to 4m tall, although easily controlled by pruning.  It has soft hairy leaves and rich violet-purple flowers 6-10cm across with blackish stamens.

Caring for your Tibouchina Urvilleana

Tibouchina or ‘Glory Bush’ can be only grown outside in the very mildest of climates in the UK.  Generally it is better planted in a large pot and given winter protection wherever possible.  Hard pruning in Spring is beneficial, preventing these plants from becoming top heavy or ‘leggy’.  Tibouchina also benefit from generous feeding.  They only start to flower from late Summer, as the days shorten, and continue until the frosts.

This Brazilian native is the perfect plant for mediterranean gardens, city gardens, wall side borders and containers.
