Syringa Laciniata, also known as the ‘Cut Leaf Lilac’, is a species of Lilac native to China. The plant is prized for its showy, fragrant flowers that bloom in late Spring and its deeply cut, green foliage that adds visual interest to gardens and landscapes.

The history of Syringa Laciniata can be traced back to its discovery in China in the late 18th century by French botanist Andre Michaux who brought the plant back to Europe, where it quickly gained popularity among gardeners and horticulturists for its unique fringed flowers and lush foliage.

How to care for your Syringa Laciniata

  1. Planting: plant in well-drained soil in a sunny location.
  2. Watering: Drought-tolerant, but it should be watered regularly during the first growing season to establish a deep root system. Once established, it can survive on natural rainfall.
  3. Fertilising: Fertilise in the Spring with a balanced fertiliser
  4. Pruning: Prune in the late winter or early spring, before new growth begins. Remove any dead or diseased branches, and shape the plant to your desired shape.
  5. Winter protection: if you live in a particularly cold area, you may want to mulch around the base of the plant to provide some insulation.
  6. Deadheading: Deadhead to encourage re blooming and to keep the plant looking tidy.
