Rosmarinus Officinalis, commonly known as ‘Rosemary’, is a versatile and fragrant herb that has been used for centuries for culinary, medicinal, and decorative purposes.  Its evergreen leaves, aromatic fragrance, and delicate blue flowers that start in Spring but are often repeated at differing times of year, make it a popular choice for gardens, balconies, and indoor spaces alike. As an easy-to-grow plant that thrives in full sun and well-draining soil, this is a great addition to any garden or herb collection. Whether you use it for cooking, aromatherapy, or as a natural insect repellent, this herb offers a range of benefits for both the body and the mind.

How to care for your Rosmarinus Officinalis

  • Watering: Prefers well-draining soil and can tolerate dry conditions. Overwatering can cause root rot, so make sure the soil is dry before watering. Water deeply but infrequently, about once a week or when the top inch of soil feels dry.
  • Soil: Plant in well-draining, sandy soil. You can add perlite or sand to improve drainage.
  • Light: Needs at least 6 hours of sunlight per day. Place it in a sunny location, preferably facing south or west.
  • Fertiliser: Does not need a lot of fertiliser. You can add a slow-release fertiliser once or twice a year in the Spring or Autumn.
  • Pruning: Prune regularly to maintain its shape and promote bushiness. You can trim the tips of the branches or cut back up to one-third of the plant in the Spring.
  • Winter Care: Rosemary is hardy and can tolerate temperatures down to -10°C. If you live in a colder climate, you can grow in a pot and bring it indoors during the Winter months. Alternatively, you can cover the plant with a frost blanket or mulch to protect it from freezing temperatures.

With proper care, Rosmarinus Officinalis can provide you with fresh herbs and beautiful blooms for years to come.
