Potentilla Fruticosa Tangerine, commonly known as ‘Shrubby Cinquefoil’ is a charming deciduous shrub celebrated for its abundant and cheerful blooms that brighten gardens from late Spring through to early Autumn. This compact shrub typically reaches heights of 1 metre with a similar spread, making it an excellent choice for borders, rock gardens, or as a low hedge. The plant’s appeal lies not only in its vibrant flowers but also in its dense, bushy habit and attractive dark green foliage, which provides a lovely backdrop to the colourful blooms.

In late Spring, it bursts into bloom with clusters of small, five-petaled flowers,  yellow, flushed with copper-orange. These blossoms are held above the foliage on slender stems, creating a profusion of colour that lasts well into the Summer months. The flowers are not only visually striking but also attract pollinators such as bees and butterflies, enhancing the biodiversity of the garden and bringing it to life with their activity.

With its long blooming period, easy-care nature, and striking flowers, this is a delightful addition to any garden, bringing vibrant colour and charm to both formal landscapes and more relaxed garden settings alike.

How to care for your Potentilla Tangerine

  • Planting Location: Choose a well-drained site with either full sun or partial shade. Adapts well to various soil types but thrives in fertile, moist soil.
  • Watering: Water regularly during the first growing season to establish a healthy root system. Once established, water deeply but infrequently, especially during dry periods.
  • Mulching: Apply a layer of mulch around the base of the plant to conserve moisture, regulate soil temperature, and suppress weed growth.
  • Fertilising: Feed annually in early Spring with a balanced, slow-release fertiliser to promote healthy growth and abundant flowering.
  • Pruning: Prune lightly in early Spring to remove dead or damaged branches and to shape the plant. Cut back flowering stems after blooming to encourage continuous flowering throughout the season.
  • Propagation: Propagate by taking softwood cuttings in early Summer or by dividing established clumps in early Spring. Ensure the cuttings have a node and plant them in well-draining soil.

By following these care instructions, Potentilla Tangerine will thrive and reward your garden with its vibrant blooms throughout the growing season.
