Phormium Bronze baby, commonly known as New Zealand flax and holder of the much sought after RHS Award of Garden Merit, is a dwarf, evergreen, clump forming plant providing all year round colour for the garden. The sword like arching foliage of this phormium is a deep purple -bronze colour making this an ideal structural plant in the border, equally suitable as a patio or container plant. During long hot Summers tubular shaped red flowers appear on tall spikes, towering above its colourful foliage. Some winter protection required in exposed areas.
Looking After Your Phormium Bronze Baby
Generally disease free, a low maintenance and easy to grow evergreen garden shrub in many if not all locations, preferring a sunny or partially shaded area of the garden away from any cold or drying winter winds, ideal for the sunny border adding both height and colour. A moist, well drained, fertile soil will ensure you have a healthy and happy shrub. Although generally maintenance free, remove any dead or damaged leaves late Spring, providing a good mulch of well rotted garden compost and a general purpose fertiliser to stimulate plenty of fresh new growth.
