The plant can reach up to 2.5 metres in height and 1.5 metres in width, making it a substantial addition to any garden or landscape. The flowers of this tree peony are typically crimson red in colour, although there are some varieties with pink or white blooms. The flowers can grow up to 8cm in diameter and have a lovely fragrance.  It is ideal for flower beds and borders and can also be used for cut flower arrangements.

How to care for your Paeonia Delavayi

  • Light and Water Requirements: Prefers full sun to partial shade and requires regular watering during the first growing season to establish itself. Once established, it is drought tolerant and does not require frequent watering. Water the plant deeply once a week during periods of drought.
  • Soil Requirements: This plant prefers well-drained soil that is slightly acidic to neutral. To improve soil quality, add organic matter like compost or leaf litter.
  • Fertiliser: Does not require frequent fertilisation, but a light application of balanced fertiliser in the Spring can encourage healthy growth.
  • Pruning: Prune the plant in early Spring before new growth appears to remove any damaged or dead wood. This will also help to maintain the plant’s shape and promote healthy growth.
  • Mulching: Adding a layer of organic mulch around the base of the plant can help to conserve moisture, suppress weeds, and regulate soil temperature.

By following these simple care tips, you can enjoy a healthy and vibrant Paeonia Delavayi plant in your garden or landscape. With its stunning flowers, hardy nature, and low-maintenance requirements, it is sure to be a standout addition to your outdoor space.
