Osmanthus tricolor, also known as the ‘Holly Olive’ and holder of the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit is a beautiful and unique evergreen shrub that is native to China. It is known for its glossy green leaves that are edged in white and cream, giving it a striking variegated appearance. Its small, inconspicuous, white flowers are highly fragrant, blooming in late Summer to early Autumn.
This Osmanthus is often used as an ornamental shrub in gardens as well as for hedging and screens. It is ideal for small gardens and can be used in mixed borders, in pots, or as a low maintenance alternative to box hedging. The plant can grow up to 1.5m tall and 1.5m wide.
The Osmanthus Tricolor is easy to grow and care for, it prefers well-draining soil and full sun to partial shade and is also relatively drought-tolerant and can withstand some salt spray, making it a great choice for coastal gardens.
