Iochroma Australis or ‘Mini Angels Trumpet’ as it is more commonly known and holder of the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit,  is a stunning shrub that is prized for its trumpet-shaped, bright blue flowers that bloom in early Summer. It is evergreen if grown under glass and is normally deciduous outdoors.

This plant is native to South America and has been widely cultivated for its ornamental value for centuries.

How to care for your Iochroma Australis

  1. Light: This plant prefers full sun but can tolerate some shade.
  2. Water: It is drought tolerant but should be watered regularly during dry spells. Avoid overwatering as this can lead to root rot.
  3. Soil: This plant prefers well-drained soil but is adaptable to a variety of soil types.
  4. Fertiliser: Fertilise every Spring with a balanced fertiliser to promote healthy growth and flower production.
  5. Pruning: Prune as and when needed to control its size and shape. This can be done in the Spring before new growth begins.

By following these care guidelines, you can ensure that your Iochroma Australis will thrive in your garden for many years to come.
