Hamamelis Pallida, also known as ‘Witch Hazel’ and holder of the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit, is a deciduous shrub that is known for its beautiful, fragrant, yellow flowers that bloom in early Spring. The flowers are produced before the leaves appear, providing a colourful show in the garden during a time when other plants are still dormant. The flowers have a spidery appearance and have a strong, spicy fragrance. The leaves of Hamamelis Pallida are dark green and glossy, turning to shades of yellow, orange, and red in the Autumn.
This shrub can grow up to 4 metres tall and wide, but can also be pruned to maintain a smaller size. It is hardy and can withstand cold temperatures making it suitable for growing in a wide range of climates. It prefers full sun to partial shade and can grow in a variety of soil types, as long as it is well-drained.
Hamamelis Pallida is an excellent choice for adding colour and fragrance to the garden during the early spring months. Its yellow flowers and glossy leaves make it a valuable addition to any garden. It can be grown as a specimen plant, in groups or as a hedge.
This shrub is also low-maintenance plant and does not require regular fertilisation or pruning to produce vibrant yellow flowers. However, cutting back the shrub after flowering will encourage new growth and promote a bushier shape.
