Galtonia Candicans, commonly known as ‘Summer Hyacinth’ and holder of the much coveted RHS Award of Garden Merit, is a clump forming herbaceous perennial originating from moist grassland in South Africa. It has linear, lance shaped leaves around 0.5-1m long, and bearing in late summer racemes of drooping white flowers which can be slightly tinged with green at the bases. The Galtonia is best suited for cottage and informal gardens, planted in a border or container in full sun where it will really thrive.
