Digitalis Pam’s Choice, also known as ‘Foxglove’ and a holder of the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit, is a cultivar of the popular foxglove plant, known for its tall spikes of bell-shaped creamy white trumpet shaped flowers with maroon splashed throats, above rosettes of hairy, mid green leaves. This particular variety was first introduced by UK-based breeder Pam Eveleigh and named after her, it is becoming increasingly popular among gardeners for its long blooming period and vibrant, eye-catching flowers.
Digitalis Pam’s Choice is a biennial or short-lived perennial plant that can reach up to 1.5 metres in height. The flowers bloom in late Spring to early Summer. The plant’s green leaves are lanceolate, providing a nice contrast to the bright flowers.
How to care for the Digitalis Pam’s Choice
- Light: Prefers full sun to partial shade. It is best to plant the Digitalis in a location that receives morning sun and afternoon shade.
- Water: Prefers moist soil, but it can tolerate periods of dryness. Water the plant regularly and make sure the soil does not dry out completely.
- Fertiliser: It does not require a lot of fertiliser, but it can benefit from a slow-release fertiliser applied once a month during the growing season.
- Pruning: It does not require frequent pruning, but it can be pruned to shape and control its size. Prune the plant after it flowers, and avoid pruning in fall or winter.
- Soil: It prefers a well-drained, moist soil. If your soil is heavy clay or sandy, amend it with organic matter to improve drainage.
- Temperature: It is fully hardy.
By following these care tips, you can ensure that your Digitalis Pam’s Choice thrives and remains healthy for many years to come.
