How to care for your Dierama Erectum
- Light: Prefers partial to full sun, but can tolerate some shade. It is best to plant the Dierama in a location that receives morning sun and afternoon shade.
- Water: Prefers moist soil, but it is drought tolerant and can tolerate periods of dryness. Water the plant regularly and make sure the soil does not dry out completely.
- Fertiliser: Dierama erecta does not require a lot of fertiliser, but it can benefit from a slow-release fertiliser applied once a month during the growing season.
- Pruning: Does not require frequent pruning, but it can be pruned to shape and control its size. Prune the plant after it flowers, and avoid pruning in Autumn or Winter.
- Soil: Prefers a well-drained, moist soil. If your soil is heavy clay or sandy, amend it with organic matter to improve drainage.
- Temperature: It is hardy down to -10°C but will be killed by prolonged freezes.
By following these care tips, you can ensure that your Dierama Erectum thrives and remains healthy for many years to come. It will reward you with beautiful spikes of delicate bell-like flowers that bloom in the Summer.
