Clematis Armandii , also known as ‘Armand Clematis’ is a vigorous evergreen climber. The glossy, long mid-green leaves which emerge with bronze tones when young, are then smothered in sweetly scented, single star shaped flowers which make this Clematis a perfect climber for the pergola or as a covering for walls and fences. It is a superb pollinator providing early nectar for the bees and other beneficial insects for the garden.
Looking After Your Clematis Armandii
Generally pest and disease free, although young shoots may be affected by aphids or caterpillars, it is an easy to grow evergreen climber. A low maintenance climber for the garden which will benefit from either a sunny or partially shaded area in all types of garden. As with most types of Clematis the roots should be kept cool by shading them from other plants close to its base or covered using gravel or ornamental bark, in a sheltered position away from any very cold Winter winds. Apply a good quality muti-purpose fertiliser in early Spring to promote strong, healthy new growth during the coming season.
