Chaenomeles Japonica, commonly known as the ‘Japanese Flowering Quince’ , is a bushy deciduous medium-sized shrub.  It has dark green oval leaves and beautifully fragranced red to orange coloured flowers, which appear in Spring.  These are then closely followed by edible green fruit which turn to golden yellow when matured towards Autumn.  The fruit is very bitter if eaten raw but makes delicious preserves or jellies when cooked.

Looking After Your Chaenomeles Maulei

Generally pest and disease free, the Chaenomeles Maulei is an easy to grow flowering shrub in many, if not all locations. A low maintenance deciduous shrub which will thrive in a sunny or partially shaded area with moist well drained soil.  An ideal shrub for all types of garden, the sunnier the aspect the more abundant the flowers.   Some pruning will be required, cutting back in late Spring to encourage a healthy growth for the coming season.
