Chaenomeles Japonica, commonly known as the ‘Japanese Flowering Quince’ , is a bushy deciduous medium-sized shrub. It has dark green oval leaves and beautifully fragranced red to orange coloured flowers, which appear in Spring. These are then closely followed by edible green fruit which turn to golden yellow when matured towards Autumn. The fruit is very bitter if eaten raw but makes delicious preserves or jellies when cooked.
