Ceanothus Puget Blue, commonly known as ‘Californian Lilac’ and holder of the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit is a stunning shrub that is known for its vibrant blue flowers that bloom in the Spring and Summer months, adding a pop of colour to any garden.

The plant is evergreen, providing year-round greenery and making it an ideal choice for hedging or as a standalone specimen. It is drought tolerant and low maintenance, making it a great choice for busy gardeners or those looking for an easy-care landscape. This Ceanothus grows best in full sun and well-drained soil, reaching a mature height and width of 3 metres.   This beautiful shrub is perfect for adding colour and texture to any garden, whether you’re looking to create a naturalistic landscape or a more formal garden design.  An excellent wild-life plant attracting many insects, bees and  butterflies

How to care for your Ceanothus Pugets Blue

  1. Planting: Prefers well-drained soil and full sun, so make sure to plant it in an area that receives at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day.
  2. Watering: Is drought tolerant, but it’s best to water it regularly during the first growing season to help it establish a strong root system. Once established, it will only need occasional watering.
  3. Pruning: Can be pruned to control size and shape. Prune in late Winter or early Spring, before new growth begins.
  4. Fertilising: Does not require fertiliser, but you can add a slow-release fertiliser in the Spring if you want to encourage more growth.
  5. Winter Care: It is cold hardy, but it’s best to protect it from harsh Winter winds and frost. A thick layer of mulch or a burlap cover will help protect the roots during the winter months.

By following these tips, you can enjoy the beautiful blue flowers and lush green foliage of Ceanothus Puget Blue for years to come.
