Callistemon Rigidus, also known as the ‘Stiff bottlebrush’, is a native Australian shrub that is known for its vibrant red bottlebrush-like flowers. The shrub grows to a height of 2.5 metres and has a spread of 2.5 metres, making it a great option for borders and hedges. The Stiff Bottlebrush is known for its hardiness and can tolerate a wide range of soil conditions, from sandy to clay soils. It is also drought tolerant once established, making it a great option for low maintenance gardens. In Spring and Summer, it produces masses of vibrant red flowers that attract nectar-loving birds and insects to the garden. With its attractive flowers and easy maintenance, the Callistemon Rigidus is a great option for any gardener looking to add a pop of colour to their landscape.
The plant was first described by botanist Robert Brown in 1810, during his expedition to Australia. It was later described in more detail by botanist George Bentham in 1867 in his publication “Flora Australiensis.”
