Calamagrostis x Acutiflora Overdam, also known as ‘Variegated Feather Reed Grass’ is a clump forming perennial grass of gracefully arching, linear, green leaves which bear pale yellow margins and stripes, fading into a pinkish white colour. From July onwards loose sprays of purplish flowers on tall, erect stems are formed, becoming a pale brown towards Autumn. A superb architectural plant providing height to the border, left to dry naturally the mature flower panicles swaying gently in the breeze provide extra interest to the garden during the Winter months.
Looking after Your Calamagrostis Acutiflora Overdam
Generally pest and disease free, an easy to grow perennial grass in many if not all locations. This low maintenance, drought tolerant grass will benefit from a sunny or partially shaded area in all types of garden, from informal cottage garden planting schemes to the more formal town/city garden, including coastal planting schemes. Calamagrostis will thrive in most soil condition, preferring free draining sites away from any wet conditions. Cut hard cut to ground level early Spring, and apply a generous feed of a good quality general purpose fertiliser to promote fresh new growth.
