A fast growing hardy, deciduous shrub with oval dark green leaves on gracefully arching branches, from mid-late Summer an abundance of orange – yellow flower clusters are formed, these highly scented blooms act as a magnet to the many varieties of butterflies, bees and other beneficial pollinators visiting the garden. An eye catching addition to any flowering shrub border and which will thrive when placed against a wall or fence, the prefect backdrop for the smaller plants, or when positioned in an area which requires some additional colour.

How to care for your Buddleja Sungold

Planting:  Choose a sunny location with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight.  Ensure well-draining soil enriched with organic matter.

Watering:  Keep the soil consistently moist during the establishment period.  Once established, water deeply and infrequently, allowing the soil to partially dry between waterings.  Avoid overwatering to prevent root rot.

Pruning:  Prune in late Winter or early Spring before new growth appears.  Cut back the previous year’s growth to about 12 to 18 inches above ground.  Deadhead spent flower spikes to encourage continuous blooming.  Shape the plant to maintain the desired size and form.

Fertilising:  Apply a balanced, slow-release fertilider in early Spring.  Avoid excessive fertilisation, which can lead to excessive vegetative growth.

Mulching:  Apply organic mulch around the base of the plant to retain moisture and suppress weeds.  Leave a few inches of space around the stem to prevent rot.

Butterfly Attraction:  Enjoy the natural spectacle as butterflies and pollinators are drawn to the fragrant flowers.  Provide a source of water, such as a shallow dish, to create a welcoming habitat.

Remember, proper care and attention will help your Buddleja Sungold thrive, attracting butterflies and adding a touch of radiant beauty to your garden.
