Buddleja Santana, also known as the ‘Santana Butterfly Bush’, is a beautiful and unique addition to any garden. This deciduous shrub is known for its vibrant red purple flowers that bloom in the Summer and attract a variety of butterflies and other pollinators. The variegated leaves are elongated and glossy, adding to the plant’s overall aesthetic appeal.

In terms of growth, it can reach heights of up to 2.5 metres making it a great option for medium to large garden spaces. It is hardy and prefers full sun and well-drained soil.

One of the great things about the Buddleja Santana is its low maintenance requirements. It is drought tolerant and requires minimal pruning, making it a great option for busy gardeners or those looking for a low-effort addition to their landscape.

The Buddleja species were first introduced to Europe in the early 19th century, and have been popular in horticulture ever since.

How to care for your Buddleja Santana

  2. Water regularly, keeping the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged.
  3. Fertilise with a balanced fertiliser in the Spring.
  4. Prune back hard in early spring to promote new growth and encourage bushier growth.
  5. Deadhead spent blooms to promote re-blooming.
