Bergenia Abenglut ‘Evening Glow’ is commonly known as Elephant Ears due to its large oval shaped, leathery green leaves. In March and April this herbaceous perennial produces magenta coloured flower spikes throughout the low growing foliage creating wonderful colour all year round and making it a perfect specimen for any border/bed planting in cottage and informal gardens. This Bergenia is particularly eye catching when the large Elephant’s Ear’s are covered with frost in the Winter.
Looking After Your Bergenia Abenglut
Generally pest and disease free, although may be affected by vine weevil, slugs or snails and prefers a humus rich soil. Although tolerant to most conditions Bergenia are well suited to any dry, out of the way areas beneath the partial shade of a deciduous tree or along a sloping bank. During Autumn generally tidy, removing any faded, damaged or dead leaves and flower spikes to help deter any slugs or snails and provide a good mulch of well rotted garden compost or leaf mould, checking again in the Spring for any damaged foliage.
