Azara Microphyllus also known as ‘Boxleaf Azara’, holder of the coveted RHS Award of Garden Merit, is an elegant, tall evergreen shrub or small tree with a herringbone arrangement of branches upon which it’s dark green obovate toothed leaves are formed. In late winter and spring greenish yellow, vanilla scented flowers appear in clusters on the undersides of the shoots. A superb addition to any garden, the early Spring fragrance bringing a welcome warmth to its visitors. Will tolerate full shade, ideally against a wall.
Looking After Your Azara Microphyllus
A low maintenance and easy to grow ornamental garden shrub which is generally pest and disease free, preferring a sunny or partially shaded area. This eye catching fragrant evergreen will also adapt well to shade making this a suitable candidate for growing against a wall providing a back ground splash of deep green colour for any border. Azara Microphyllus will thrive quite happily in most soils provided they are moist and well drained. A good mulch provided during the Autumn will help to protect the roots from any frost, early Spring makes an ideal time to tidy this shrub by removing any damaged or unwanted branches, and feed with a good quality general purpose fertiliser to encourage strong, healthy growth.
