Aucuba Japonica Rozannie, also known as the ‘Spotted or ‘Japanese Laurel Rozannie, holder of the prestigious RHS Award of Garden Merit, is a hardy, compact rounded evergreen shrub with glossy dark green, lance shaped and slightly serrated leaves, providing a wonderfully bold back-drop to it’s small clusters of purple red flowers in the Spring and followed soon after by small bright red berries, a bonus for the garden wildlife. A shrub of year round interest suitable to fill that awkward shaded spot, mixed shrub border or to form a dense, impenetrable hedge.
Looking after your Aucuba Japonica Rozannie
Generally pest and disease free, a low maintenance evergreen garden shrub requiring very little care. This easy to grow shrub is not fussy, so will thrive in most soils, as long as its not water-logged, and adapts well to both deep shade or full sun, the sunnier the position the better the berry colour. Early Spring remove any damaged or unwanted branches to maintain size and shape, at the same time apply a general purpose fertiliser to encourage good strong new growth. If using to form a hedge plant approximately 60-90 cms apart.
