Aucuba Japonica Crotonifolia, also known as the ‘Japanese Spotted Laurel’ is a holder of the much coveted RHS Award of Garden Merit.   A hardy, evergreen shrub of rounded habit with its large glossy green leaves splashed with pale yellow.  Mid Spring small clusters of purple-red flowers appear, the male form having yellow anthers, flowers on the female plants are followed by bright red berries towards the Autumn. Often used to form a hedge, but also suitable within the shrub border or to fill that awkward shaded area. A must have shrub for year round colour.

Looking After your Aucuba Japonica Crotonifolia

A low maintenance evergreen, hardy garden shrub requiring very little care. This easy to grow shrub is not fussy so thrives quite happily in most soil types that aren’t water logged, and adapts well to both deep shade and full sun, the sunnier the position within the garden the better the berry production on the female form, plant both male and female plants in close proximity to ensure good berry production. Early Spring remove any dead or unwanted branches to maintain both shape and size, at the same time apply a general purpose fertiliser to help encourage strong, healthy new growth. If using to form a hedge plant approximately 60-90 cm apart.
